More potential rebates - The Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) offers a 10% rebate on the premium of your mortgage loan insurance if your home is either an R-2000 home or has an EnerGuide rating of at least 77. For more information click here.
Every certified R-2000 home must meet demanding standards that requires energy efficient construction, builder training, quality ventilation systems, good air quality for healthy living and conservation features to cut water use.
While the initial cost of an R-2000 home will be a bit higher, typically the monthly savings from reduced energy, electricity and water costs will be more than the additional borrowing costs associated with any extra construction costs.
Usually the total monthly costs of living in an R-2000 home are less than those of a less expensive and less efficient home.
