Conserve Nova Scotia, the province's energy efficiency agency, helped several businesses provincewide make smarter lighting choices through the Smart Lighting Choices program.

Through this program, Conserve Nova Scotia offset the cost for consumers to upgrade from regular T8 systems to High Performance T8 systems.

High performance T8 lighting offers both energy savings plus superior performance over conventional T8 or T12 fluorescent lighting systems.

Thanks to this program, businesses provincewide are now saving energy and money and doing their part to help protect our environment through reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

From November 2007 to January 2009, over 537,000 high performance lights and more than 165,000 ballasts have been sold in Nova Scotia. This mean more than 200,000 lighting systems were either upgraded or newly installed provincewide.

What does this means for Nova Scotia?

These impressive numbers translate to annual electricity savings of over 15,000 megawatt hours, or $1.8 million. End users will not only be saving energy and money, but are also doing their part to help protect the environment. Thanks to this program, more than 14,000 tonnes of annual greenhouse gas emissions have been diverted from our environment.
