Christene Almon

Minister's Advisory Council Member - Christene Almon

Combining her interests in the environment, education and public affairs, Christene Almon has been involved in one or another of these areas for most of her working life.

Most recently, in a position designed to bring together her skills, Christene has been working as an Environmental Analyst in the Environmental Services Section of the Department of Transportation and Public Works for 10 years.

In addition to authoring the Department's environmental policy - a first for the Nova Scotia government - Christene has coordinated the development and implementation of the departmental Environmental Management Program and, since then, was a key member of the department's team to integrate the Occupational Health and Safety Program with the environment program, again, a first for the Nova Scotia government.

Promoting a sustainable government is a consuming passion for Christene with work on greening the government fleet and public buildings, as well as involvement implementing the government's new Sustainable Prosperity Act.

Prior to this position Christene worked in a variety of roles including planner, lecturer and trainer.

Christene's academic background includes a B.Sc in Biology, M.Ed (Environmental Education) and finally an M.P.A. (1987, Public Administration), where she was the recipient of the Guy Henson Gold Medal awarded by Faculty and students for scholastic achievement, personal integrity, and professionalism.

Christene is a founding member of a long-standing bookclub, an active hiker and has recently taken on the challenge of learning to play the piano.

Christene is the mother of two active and talented teenagers and credits her husband's intelligent use of humour for bringing balance to a busy household.
